What Is an MRI?
Understanding Your MRI Scan
MRI — Magnetic Resonance Imaging — is a non-invasive diagnostic tool that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of the inside of the body. It does not use radiation.
MRI scans help physicians evaluate soft tissues, organs, joints, and other structures that may not be clearly visible on X-rays or CT scans. Your doctor will review the images to support diagnosis and guide your care.
At Bright Imaging, our focus is on providing high-quality MRI scans in a setting that is clean, professional, and designed with patient comfort in mind.
What to Expect
Your Visit at Bright Imaging
Arrival & Check-In
When you arrive, our front desk team will greet you, confirm your information, and guide you through the check-in process. Please bring your referral, insurance card, and a valid photo ID.
Preparation
Before your scan, a staff member will walk you through what to expect and answer any questions. You may be asked to change into a gown and remove any metal objects, jewelry, or accessories.
Your Scan
You will lie on a comfortable table that gently moves into the MRI scanner. The machine will make a series of sounds during the scan — this is completely normal. Most scans take between 30 and 60 minutes, though this can vary.
After Your Scan
Once your scan is complete, you are free to resume your normal activities. Your images will be reviewed and the results sent to your referring physician.
How to Prepare
General Preparation Guidelines
Your referring physician or our staff will provide any specific preparation instructions for your scan. The following are general guidelines that apply to most MRI visits.
Wear comfortable clothing
Loose, comfortable clothing without metal zippers, buttons, or underwire is ideal. You may be asked to change into a gown.
Leave jewelry and metal at home
Metal objects — including jewelry, piercings, and hair accessories — must be removed before entering the scan room. It is easiest to leave them at home.
Inform us of any implants
Please let us know in advance if you have any metal implants, pacemakers, or other medical devices. Some devices may affect your eligibility for an MRI.
Arrive a few minutes early
Arriving 10–15 minutes before your scheduled appointment gives us time to complete your paperwork and prepare you for your scan without feeling rushed.
Follow any specific instructions
Your doctor or our team may provide additional preparation instructions specific to your scan. Please follow those carefully and contact us with any questions.
